COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:
6th Grade Math:
This year, in math, we will be using Big Ideas Math series, V Math, and supplemental materials. Our main focus will be primarily the student’s IEP Goals and Objectives. Our class will focus on studying the number system by reviewing multiplication and division of single digit and double digit numbers, fractions, and how to add and subtract them. We will solve mathematical and real-life word problems using numerical expressions. Learners will use a multisensory approach to improve in areas. Learners will also work collaboratively to apply math reinforcement skills. Students will be given a participation grade as part of their individual practice. Educational games and computer program use may be included in their workweek.
6th Grade ELA:
This year in ELA, we will be doing a ton of activities. All of the work will be aligned to the 6th grade curriculum of Hamilton and to grade level standards. In ELA, we will be doing a variety of activities including: journals, silent reading, partner reading, marking period projects, weekly spelling tests, centers, novels, short stories, grammar, and writing. Students will be given a participation grade as part of their individual practice. Educational games and computer program use may be included in their workweek. This year in ELA, we will be reading two novels; Wonder, and The Breadwinner.
6th Grade Social Studies :
This year in Social Studies, we will be using World Studies, The Ancient World TextBook, and many other supplemental materials. Our class will focus on studying Our Ancestors, The Early People, The Ancient Worlds of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Rome, and Greece. Learners will work collaboratively, by participating in hands-on social studies activities throughout the course of the semester. Students will be given a participation grade as part of their individual practice. Educational games,art projects, cooking activites, and computer programs may be included in their week if time permits.
6th Grade Science :
This year, in Science, we will be using a variety of resources and supplemental materials. Topics that will be covered will be Science Safety, Planets, Stars and Sun, Constellations, Moon and the many phases, Cells, Heredity, Traits, Motion and Force, and Newton's 3 Laws. Learners will work collaboratively, by participating in lab activities throughout the course of the semester. Students will be given a participation grade as part of their individual practice. Educational games, projects, and computer programs may be included in their week if time permits.
Homework Folders will be given daily, Monday-Friday. Students are required to have their homework folders and all materials daily. All homework is required to be completed and returned the next day to obtain full credit.

Grading Scale:
50% Summative Grades (projects, end of module tests, notebook checks)
40% Formative Grades (quizzes, student presentations)
10% Individual Practice Grades ( independent work)

ATTENTION PARENTS/GUARDIANS:
1. Please visit your child's Powerschool Portal to view upcoming due dates for assessments, projects and homework.
2. Students will be given 1 week to complete and submit an assignment. After two weeks, your child will receive a 0.
3. Assignments that are not submitted on time will have a "0" place holder UNTIL the assignment is completed and submitted. Once a grade is placed, the zero is removed.
