The goal of the Applied Technology course for sixth, seventh & eighth grade students is to enable students to gain an increased understanding and experience of technology.  Technology is generally defined as the means by which we try to improve our people made world.  Technology Education is an integrated, experience-based, “hands on” instructional program designed to prepare students to be knowledgeable about technology - its evolution, systems, technologies, utilization, and social and cultural significance. It results in the application of mathematic and science concepts to technological systems in areas such as, but not limited to: construction, manufacturing, communications, transportation, biotechnology, and power and energy.  Throughout two marking periods, students will be challenged to discover, create, solve problems, and construct solutions by using a variety of tools, machines, computer systems, materials, processes and technological systems.

Grades are determined by the following categories and percentages (weights):

    Individual Practice* = 10%
    Activities & Quizzes = 40%
    Projects & Tests = 50%

    * The students' individual practice grade consists of class participation and use of good work habits.  Due to the nature of this class and since much of the time will be spent working on projects, class participation will play an important role in student grades.
