•         Homework Policy and Take Home Folders

    Homework Policy

    • Homework is assigned to reinforce the skills taught in class.  It is kept short and sweet so it is meaningful.  Students should be able to do the homework independently, but may require parent support at times.

    • Math:  homework is assigned almost every night (Monday-Thursday)

    • Reading: 15 minutes of reading each night

    • Purposeful reading comprehension assignments assigned at times

    • Spelling: I do NOT assign spelling homework.  Each week, a new spelling skill is taught, however, all work and preparation for Friday’s test is done in school.

    • Homework and reminders are written as a group using the Ladybug daily before pack up and dismissal.  I sign each homework planner to make sure your student has written down everything correctly. What I write in my homework planner on the board should be exactly what your student has in their planner.

Important: In fifth grade, any unfinished class work that was given an appropriate amount of time to complete during the school day will go home for homework that evening!

Question: What happens if your child does not complete their math or reading homework assignments?

Answer: The incomplete homework will be given to your child during the school day. They will miss a “fun, non- academic activity” such as listening to our six minute podcast or playing math games.

    Green Take Home Folders

Every day your child will take home his/her Take Home Folder.  Please try to check this each day. It may contain important announcements, homework assignments, or completed work.

It is very important that your child brings his/her folder back to school each day. This will help to create a routine and continue the communication between home and school.

In addition, please use their folder as a way to communicate with me. For instance, if your child is doing something different from their normal schedule (such as going home with a friend or being picked up early from school) please send me a note in your child's folder. I will ask for notes to the teacher each morning.

Thanks in advance for all of your help and support this year!
