Mrs. Hornick

Grade Six and Grade Seven English

Room A5

My name is Mrs. Hornick and this is my twelfth year teaching English Language Arts. I have taught ELA for twelve years; however, I am excited to be teaching in Hamilton and especially at Reynold's Middle School, where I will work with both sixth and seventh graders. I enjoy reading, writing, and taking lyrical/ballet classes.

I have been married for eight years, and I am also a mom to a three-year-old whose name is Chloe. You can reach me at Please allow 24 hours to respond to any and all emails sent.

I expect students to be punctual, prepared for class, to be responsible, and to be willing to learn, but most importantly, to try their best each and every day. All students have the capability to learn and overcome difficult tasks as long as they have an adult, or adults, supporting them and cheering them on through their challenges. All students have the ability to both learn and succeed in a supportive environment conducive to learning and fostering responsibility.

Why do I teach English? I can sum this up with a quote from my favorite author, F. Scott Fitzgerald: "That is the beauty of all literature. You discover that your longings are universal longings, that you're not isolated from anyone. You belong."

All of our classwork can be found in Google Classroom through signing in with Clever.

District Grading Policy is as follows:

Summative Assessments = 50%,

Formative Assessments = 40%,

Individual Practice Assignments = 10%.

Attention Parents/Guardians:

1. Please visit your child’s Powerschool Portal to view ALL upcoming due dates for assessments, projects and homework.

2. Students will be given 1 WEEK to complete and submit a formative or summative assignment. Teachers will use their discretion concerning dropping points for late assignments.  If not handed in for partial credit after one week, the assignment will receive a zero.

3. Assignments that are not submitted on time after an absence will have a “0” place holder UNTIL the assignment is completed and submitted.  Once a grade is placed, the zero is removed.
