INTRODUCTION
Students and Parents,
Hi! I'm Mr. Femiano. Welcome to my website.

PHILOSOPHY & CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
- RESPECT -- Students are expected to behave respectfully toward all people & property.
- RESPONSIBILITY -- Students are expected to demonstrate a high level of responsibility by arriving to class on time, following classroom procedures, completing all assignments on time, following directions (both written and verbal), preparing for assessments, asking good questions, putting in the extra effort that is sometimes required in an advanced class, and arranging for extra help when needed.
I want all of my students to be successful. If extra help is needed, I am available (a) before school, (b) in class, (c) during lunch [7th grade only], and (d) after school.
CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
A. 7th Grade Enriched Math is intended to prepare students for both 7th grade NJSLA (formerly PARCC) testing and 8th grade Algebra. The course will include a review of important parts of the 7th grade curriculum that students learned last year and the remaining parts of the 7th grade curriculum. It will also include most of the 8th grade curriculum to ensure that students are fully prepared for Algebra (8th grade) and Geometry (9th grade).
The course will focus on basic concepts of both Algebra (integers, equations, inequalities, slope, proportional relationships, exponents and scientific notation) and Geometry (surface area, volume, angles, triangles, transformations on the coordinate plane). It will also include a unit on Probability.
B. 6th Grade Advanced Enriched Math is intended to prepare students for 7th grade Algebra and 8th grade Geometry. It will cover all of the 7th grade curriculum, much of the 8th grade curriculum (to ensure that students are fully prepared for both Algebra and Geometry), as well as whatever parts of the 6th grade curriculum are necessary to ensure that students are fully prepared for NJSLA (formerly PARCC) testing.
The course will focus on basic concepts of both Algebra (integers, equations, inequalities, slope, proportional relationships, exponents and scientific notation) and Geometry (surface area, volume, angles, triangles, transformations on the coordinate plane). It will also include a unit on Probability.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Students MUST have a “B” average (80%) or higher for the year in Enriched Math/Advanced Enriched Math to be considered for placement in Algebra next year. Students who finish the year with an 85% average or higher will be guaranteed placement in Algebra. Students who finish with an average of 80%-84% might be required to meet additional criteria (NJSLA scores, Waggle/Into Math End-of-Year Test scores, teacher recommendation, etc.).
GRADING
In accordance with Hamilton Township's grading policy for secondary schools, marking period grades for all classes will be determined using the following scale:
50% -- Summative Assessments (tests, projects)
40% -- Formative Assessments (quizzes)
10% -- Individual Practice (homework, classwork)
