Ms. Cocco

My name is Ms. Cocco and I teach 6th Grade Science here at Reynolds Middle School. My goal for this year is to make sure that we all have fun learning science in a safe and productive learning environment.

My main expectation for all students is to be Respectful!

Respect your classmates by being thoughtful, courteous, and waiting your turn.

Respect your classroom by keeping your space clutter free and remembering your science materials every day.

Respect your teacher by raising your hand if you have a question, listening when the teacher is talking, and completing your work on time!

Please be sure to review the Reynolds Middle School Student Handbook located under the "For Students" section of the website.

This year, we'll be covering 3 major units consisting of Earth, Physical, and Life Science. All students will have access to an online journal that will allow them to track their learning as we go through each unit! Additional informative, resources, and announcements will be posted on Google Classroom.

  •  Forces and Motion
  •  Space and Astronomy
  •  Cells and Heredity

A student's total marking period grade will be a combination of the following assignment types. Each category has a different weight in the gradebook and will be used to determine the overall grade. ALL Summative Assessments averaged together are worth 50% of the total grade. ALL Formative Assessments averaged together are worth 40% of the total grade. ALL Individual Practice averaged together are worth 10% of the total grade.

Since there are 3 different categories of assignments, sometimes we'll see big changes in the grade book when the first assignment of a new category is entered.

For example, if your student has a 100% average for their Formative Assessments and a 100% average for their Individual Practice work, they will have a 100% overall grade. However, if we have our first Summative Assessment and they don't turn it in, that 100% overall grade drops all the way down to 50% because Summative Assessments are worth 50% of the overall grade! This is why it's very important to turn in assignments on time!

50% - Summative

  •  Tests (100 points) & Quizzes (50 points)
  •  Projects (50-100 points)
  •  Summative Labs (50-100 points)

40% - Formative

  •  Classwork
  •  Formative Labs

10% - Individual Practice

  •  Homework
  •  Do Nows & Exit Tickets

Attention Parents/Guardians:

  1. Please visit your child’s Powerschool Portal to view ALL upcoming due dates for assessments, projects and homework.

  1. Students will be given 1 WEEK to complete and submit a formative or summative assignment. Teachers will use their discretion about dropping points for late assignments.  If not handed in for partial credit after one week, the assignment will receive a Zero.

  1. Assignments that are not submitted on time will have a “0” place holder UNTIL the assignment is completed and submitted.  Once a grade is placed, the Zero is removed.
